In Health and Social Care, you will learn about the human body and how it changes over time. You will also learn about what it means to work in the sector and what skills and behaviours you will need to demonstrate.

The mandatory content of the qualification incorporates topics relevant across the health and social care sector:
• Human Lifespan Development
• Working in Health and Social Care
• Meeting Individual Care and Support Needs Supporting Individuals with Additional Needs
Assessment - External assessments (exams) and internal assessments (coursework): 50/50
Components There are three mandatory units which are:
• Unit 1: Human Lifespan and Development
• Unit 2: Human Health and Biology
• Unit 3: Principles of Health and Social Care Practice. Plus one additional unit.
Unit 1 Human Lifespan Development: Exam
Content A: Human growth and development through the life stages
Content B: Factors affecting human growth and development across each life stage
Content C: Health and social care promotion, prevention and treatment at different life stages
Unit 2- Human Health and Biology-Exam
Content A: Organisation of the human body.
Content B: Body systems
Content C: Disorders of the body and effect on body systems. You will examine how a range of disorders can affect various body systems, including the primary and secondary effects on those systems.
Unit 3- Principles of HSC Practice: Coursework
Learning Aim A: Understand the principles of health and social care practice which underpin meeting the care and support needs of individuals
Learning Aim B: Examine how organisation, legislation and guidance inform practice in health and social care Learning Aim C: Examine how social determinants affect the health status of individuals and the importance of equality, diversity and inclusion in practice
Plus 1 additional coursework unit from:
• Unit 4: Health, Policy and Wellbeing
• Unit 5: Promoting Health Education
• Unit 6: Safe Environments in Health and Social Care
• Unit 7: Health Science
It is for learners who are interested in learning about the health and social care sector as part of a balanced study programme.
The qualification supports access to a range of higher education courses or apprenticeships possibly, but not exclusively, in health and social care.
- Do I have to have studied HSC at Level 2?
No, it would be helpful but not essential. - Is there a lot of written work?
Yes the Coursework units are all written work and there are long answer questions in external exams. - Do only girls do this course?
No, lots of boys have taken the level 3 qualification
