Business studies explores the theories and practical aspects of running small to multinational organisations.

Entry Requirements:       5 GCSEs at Grade 5+

Assessment:                       100% Exams: 3 externally assessed exams

Components:                    Theme One:     Marketing and People
                                              Theme Two:     Managing business activities
                                              Theme Three:  Business decisions and strategy
                                              Theme Four:    Global business

Qualification:                   Edexcel: A level Business Studies

 

 

Students are introduced to businesses in Themes One and Two in Year 1 through building knowledge of core business concepts and applying them to business contexts to develop a broad understanding of how businesses work. Students will be looking how businesses meet customer needs, how they market product and services and how they become successful. Students will also study how business plan their finances and business activities. In Year 2 students will study more complex business concept and information in theme Three and Four. Students will be taking a much more strategic view of business opportunities and issues

 

If you have a keen interest in understanding how successful businesses operate, or and have an interest in setting up your own business this is the course for you.  

 

There are many further educational qualifications that perfectly lead on from business studies, and many apprenticeships. Possible career choices with A-level business studies include management, marketing, finance, accounting, banking, retailing, manufacturing and local government. Many universities will accept business studies as an A-level when applying for courses such as economics, business studies and many other options.

 

1. Do I have to have studied business studies at GCSE?
   It will help you if you have, but it is not a requirement.
2. What type of questions are in the exams?
   A real mixture from multiple choice questions to long essay questions.
