THRIVE- Careers Information, Advice and Guidance
At St Wilfrid’s Catholic School every student will experience high-quality career guidance education throughout their time, from Years 7 to 13. Our careers programme ‘THRIVE’ is delivered through allocated curriculum time.
In January 2018 the Department for Education issued new Statutory Careers Guidance which introduced the Gatsby Benchmarks. The Benchmarks are designed to ensure that a 'gold standard' of Career Education is provided to all students with the tools they need to go on and have positive careers.
The Benchmarks are:
- A stable career programme
- Learning from career and labour market information
- Addressing the needs of each student
- Linking curriculum learning to careers
- Encounters with employers and employees
- Experience of workplaces
- Encounters with further and higher education
- Personal Guidance
At St Wilfrid’s Catholic School we are working hard to ensure that these standards are met. Our newly developed THRIVE programme uses the Career development Institutes, new career development framework to help meet the Gatsby Benchmarks. Students cover the 6 strands of the framework every year, building upon their skills, year-on-year. To support our students, there is a structured programme of Careers which is delivered during Form time, Assemblies and PSHE lessons from Years 7 to 13.
THRIVE lessons are delivered in Thursday morning tutor sessions fortnightly. In these lessons students will develop employability skills and knowledge of the Next Steps available after GCSE and A Levels.
. THRIVE sessions will support your child in choosing their pathways through learning and will prepare them to choose a positive career that they can THRIVE in!
Students can access all the THRIVE resources on teams, and a THRIVE booklet is also supplied by their tutor.
Students will have the opportunity to engage with employers during THRIVE Immersion days, enterprise activities, industry competitions, attending careers fairs, careers presentations, Alumni involvement and more.
The school provides advice and guidance for students future opportunities covering sixth form, colleges, university applications, apprenticeships and employment opportunities.
This area of our website is targeted at parents and the student community. All teachers are aware of this existence and have received training in delivering our careers curriculum.
We would like to hear from parents and carers, employers, Higher Education or Further Education Colleges or other career relevant groups if would like to support us in our THRIVE programme or in other ways.
