On Wednesday 3rd July,  St Wilfrid's hosted its own Question Time with Conservative MP Zac Alli, Green Party candidate Iain Dickinson, Labour Candidate Peter Lamb, Liberal Democrat candidate Lee Gibbs and Reform Party candidate Tim Perry which was streamed live to all our students in their classrooms as well as the general public via our St Wilfrid's YouTube channel. The election is still available to view here.  

Our Deputy Headteacher, Mr Chris Franke, hosted the event and each candidate was able to outline their core party principles to the audience before questions were taken from the audience of VI Form students. The first  question started with Hamza Izran asking the candidates about the cost of living and how they could improve it.  There were further questions on the economy, immigration, the Environment, school funding with the  candidates having the opportunity to respond to the questions.

Chris Franke, Deputy Headteacher, who organised the event commented, "“I was delighted with the engaged questioning that our students displayed. They really pushed the candidates to reflect on how their policies would have an impact on the young people and the wider community of Crawley. Whichever candidate becomes our Member of Parliament, they will know the priorities of St Wilfrid’s students, and I know they will respect them. It is so important to educate and encourage young people to get involved in politics and realise that it effects every part of life – I know events like this really help engage and inspire them to challenge those who govern us, and to get out and vote!”

During both break times today our school community have been given the opportunity to vote for the party they feel is right to lead the country.  Our school vote was won by Labour so lets see what the rest of the country decides!
