Autumn and Spring Adult Education Programme

comes to a successful close

St Wilfrid’s was pleased to offer three suites of Adult Education programme during the Autumn and Spring terms.  These included our new ‘Prospects’ course, aimed at those returning to work or looking for a new career, our range of Introduction to... ICT courses and the ever popular Basic Business Documents 8 week course.

Course were well attended and prompted some of our best ever feedback from the local community.  Prospects was a six hour course over three evenings devised by our Head of Business Studies Mrs Sambou.  The course looked in detail at where to locate vacancies, applying for roles with a CV and application form and interview technique.  In the final session the attendees had a go at a ‘mock interview’ with ‘interviewers’ from local businesses, including Guy Gibson from local employment agency Mansell Recruitment. Feedback included, “It was a very helpful course for everyone, employed or for people seeking employment,” and, “very helpful for the future!”.

Our new suite of Introduction to... courses proved very popular.  The tutor, Mr Iddles, took attendees through the basics of Computers, Word, Excel and PowerPoint in four two-hour stand alone sessions.  A special discount was available to those attending all four courses.  The aim was to build confidence in using technology, as well as provide some practical advice and tips on using common computer programmes.  Feedback was very positive, “the tutor explained things very well and took time to look after everyone,” was one of a number of comments about the tutor’s approachable manner.  One student who attended all the Introduction to... courses commented, “Thank you – an excellent four weeks, I have learnt a lot.”

Finally, our long running Basic Business Documents course proved as popular as ever, with tutor Mr Mitchell taking attendees through many common computer and office skills used in the modern workplace.  Running from January to March, this final course of our Spring Programme was warmly received, “the tutor made everything seem really easy.  He explained how to do it, then showed us.  He spent a lot of time with each of us, helping us through it.”

The next set of courses at St Wilfrid’s will be the Introduction to... courses in June 2010.  Contact Business and Community Manager Holly Myers H.Myers@stwilfrids.com for more information.
