St Wilfrid’s Celebrate Healthy School Status

St Wilfrid’s are celebrating being awarded National Healthy School Status in recognition of our School achieving the standard set by the Government to be a Healthy School.

The National Healthy Schools Programme is an exciting long-term initiative which is making a significant difference to the health and achievement of children and young people. The National Healthy Schools Programme supports the links between health, behaviour and achievement; it is about creating healthy and happy children and young people, who do better in learning and in life.

The impact of the programme is based on a whole-school approach to physical and emotional well-being focused on four core themes:

•    Personal, Social & Health Education

•    Healthy Eating

•    Physical Activity

•    Emotional Health & Wellbeing

The whole school approach involves working with children and young people, parents, school staff and the whole school community to provide a solid foundation from which developments and improvement are embedded in a systematic way. These processes contribute to the physical and emotional development of all members of the school community.

The award has taken 18 months to achieve and has required the school's Assistant Head, Mr Michael Ferry, to compile four very detailed evidence portfolios representing PSHE, Emotional Health and Well Being, Healthy Eating and Physical Activity. Each of these portfolios had to meet rigorous criteria and involved a significant time commitment.

The award is an excellent achievement for the school and a very important one for all of us. It is re-assuring to know that the quality of our work by staff and students at St Wilfrid’s Catholic School is recognised by a national award.
