St Wilfrid’s Under 15’s rugby team travelled to The Weald School to face a strong side in the Sussex County Cup on Thursday afternoon.

St Wilfrid’s started strong, keeping possession well and supporting one another in all areas of the pitch. With Igor Lopatto and Fraser Leuchars leading the St Wilfrid’s line, the side continued to hold their own and were much improved from recent weeks. Unfortunately, St Wilfrid’s were unable to take advantage of being in a number of dangerous situations and were punished when Weald broke through and scored two tries just before half time.

In a similar second half,  Nathan Warren and Cameron Hayward passed the ball through the line to send Matia Tamale through however he was just inches away from scoring a try before being taken out of play. St Wilfrid’s hard work took its toll and in the final 5 minutes Weald scored another three breaking tries to confirm their victory.

A much improved performance from our Year 8 and 9’s, who were praised as the Sussex Rugby Union official expressed that the boys have much improved and showed great spirit and determination throughout the match.

Final score:  Weald 31 – 0 St Wilfrid’s
